Goals of the Project

The respect of human rights in all pores of the society and in our every day life is not an easy task. But  respect of these values in relations with vulnerable groups which are not in the centre of the public opinion or are intentionally put on the verge of society as a consequence of intolerant policy towards marginalised,  is even  much greater responsibility task.

Project had a great many objectives, but the most important were the following:
1) To raise the awareness and knowledge of members of groups, which are the potential victims (prisoners, asylum seekers, foreigners, etc.) about human rights protection and especially non-discrimination and respect of human dignity.
2) To increase the sensibility for the respect of human rights, etc.: a) of members of border police force responsible for border control procedures and for the management of the border security, and b) of members of the prisons’ staff. 
3) To increase the awareness of the Slovenian public and especially of people living along the EU outer border with Croatia of necessity for respecting human rights in prisons and in the activities of border control corps and their knowledge on human rights, etc.
4) To contribute to the promotion of the implementation of international and especially EU standards on non-discrimination and respect of human rights and dignity.
5) To prepare proposals and suggestions for the improvement of national policy in the fields dealt with in the project.
6) To prepare proposals for elimination of shortcomings and for improvement of national legislation and amendments of internal regulations for prisons and border police activities.
7) To ascertain and critically evaluate the present situation in prisons and in the activity of border police regarding respect of human rights, etc.
8) To prepare proposals and elaborate concept of permanent educational programmes for the staff in Slovenian prisons and the members of the border police corps.
9) To prepare written material for spreading information on the project topics among the members of the target groups and wider Slovenian public as well.
10) To prepare the internet, aimed at disseminating relevant information among members of target groups and wider public.
11) To disseminate experiences and cases of good practice of the Slovenian prison staff and border police corps within the EU relevant structure and member state s as well. To established the Network of NGO from Austria, Italy and Slovenia as a way of follow up activities after the conclusion of the project.

Project activities 

The following activities were executed within the Project: 
1. Survey among prisoners and prison staff on issues of the Project in 4 prisons in Slovenia. Results are published in publication ˝Discriminacija in pravice človeka v slovenskih zaporih.
2. Three seminars police officers working on the border – ROLE OF THE BORDER POLICE AT RESPECT OF HUMAN DIGNITY WITHIN THE SCHENGEN BORDER REGIME.
3. Organisation of the round table for local communities along the border between Slovenia and Croatia – CROSS-BORDER COOPERATION AND SCHENGEN BODER REGIME.
4. Two seminars for members of the Slovenian prisons staff - RESPECT OF HUMAN DIGNITY AND NON-DISCRIMINATION PRINCIPLE IN THE EXECUTION OF PRISON PENALTIES – THE CASE OF SLOVENIA.
